Hello, here’s a bit about me. I have been driving Mercedes-Benz cars since 1991, both
modern and classic. I am retired now, but in my working life I was the Managing Director of
a Records Management Company in Northampton, we dealt with documents, electronic or
paper on a vast scale, mostly for large companies and Local Authorities for example.
I was fortunate enough to specify a new W124 300D as my Company Car in 1991, and the
rest is history. I had always had a keen interest in classic cars, but had never taken the
plunge, a growing family was always the priority, but in 1993 I did and bought a pleasantly
tatty 220Sb Fintail, I loved it, but I didn’t know anything about it. Then I discovered this Club
that actually had members who knew all about my old Fintail and could help and advise me,
which they did in bucketloads! I have been a member ever since.
Since then, I have had quite a few Mercs, ancient and modern although I am not a serial car-
flipper, I tend to keep them for quite a long time. I currently have the W116 450SEL 6.9 you
see in the picture, a car I have owned since 2005 and I also have a really nice R231 SL400.
I used to be the Club Chairman, from 2003 to 2018 when I retired, so it’s a bit of a surprise
to me that I am back and writing these words! I have accepted the job of Interim Chairman
only until a new, substantive Board is elected by the membership, when I will crawl back
into retirement!
If you are thinking of joining the Club, I urge you to do so, you will gain enormously, not only
from the vast technical knowledge available, but also from the friendships and social
opportunities that come from membership of the oldest Mercedes-Benz Club in the world
(yes, we do lots of Social Media too!) If you are already a member, then I urge you to get as
much out of the Club as you can, enjoy everything on offer, it’s all there for you.
