Beautiful Restored 230SL “PAGODA”

This fantastic example of the classic Pagoda SL can be driven and enjoyed as Mercedes-Benz intended, and it turns even the shortest journeys into a memorable event.
History and documentation
• Imported from the US and registered in the UK April 2014 and purchased by me on 2nd August 2014.
• Extensive history file includes the original bill of sale from 1965, the original service book, original handbooks, and ALL invoices for work done and parts supplied during my nearly 12 years of ownership, including the major restoration that was performed from October 2022-March 2024 by Kevin O'Keeffe of O'Keeffe Coach trimming.
• Photos show the car before, during, and after the major restoration
• As an historic vehicle, this 230SL has zero road tax charge, and is exempt from mandatory MOT testing (although it has always been tested). It is also exempt from the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emissions Zone) charge
• V5C present in owner’s name
Interior
• MB-Tex interior is in lovely condition in the original colour of Light Grey DB118
• The chrome accents and wooden veneer trims were restored where necessary
• The carpets were replaced with correct MB square-weave pattern in the original grey and still present very well
• Period correct cocomats were sourced in America and are used to the protect the carpets and are also found in the trinket tray and in the boot.
• Both seats are in excellent condition and very comfortable
• Original working Becker Europa TR stereo, and electric Hirschmann aerial
• All VDO Instruments and controls are original and working correctly including the Hazard Warning Light pull-switch, door-operated courtesy light, map reading light, and original VDO clock
• Headlights change from dipped to full-beam via a foot-operated switch in the driver’s side footwell
• Boot includes the correct MB rubber mat, and the boot light is also working

Exterior
• Bohemian Blue paintwork - see photos for how good the car looks in this colour. You can see that it changes with the light.
• Original US specification headlights were replaced with new European specification headlights during the restoration works in 2022-2024
• The Mohair hood (soft top) was replaced in 2017 and still presents in very good order, and the rear window is clear
• A lot of the chrome accents on the bodywork were restored and retain a very good shine overall
• Although not on the car during the major restoration, the matching Pagoda hardtop is in very good condition except that as can be seen from the photos, there is some discolouration and nicks in the headlining. The hardtop chrome roof rails are in very good condition.
• The underside of the car is still in very good condition.
• As the car was originally ordered and supplied with Whitewall tyres, I have continued to fit these tyres which set off the beautiful body colour perfectly. The current set of tyres were fitted in May 2022 at approximately 53000 miles on the odometer
• The spare wheel also has a new whitewall tyre.

• Under the bonnet, the engine bay is in very good order, with some typical ageing visible to exposed components and fastenings
• Electronic ignition was upgraded during the major restoration.
• A new larger 82 litre fuel tank was installed during the major restoration in place of the existing 65 litre tank.
• This SL starts easily and drives really well
• No reported faults or issues during the MOT
Tools and Accessories
• As can be seen from the photos of the boot, the Spare wheel is housed under the original wheel cover. The jack and wedge are housed beneath the spare wheel
• The original tool kit is complete and is stored within the spare wheel cover – see photos
• A very rare original Mercedes-Benz wind deflector (Windschott in German) is fitted and will be sold with the car.
Originally developed for later models of the SL (R107 and R129), the wind deflector was adapted for the W113 Pagoda in 1992 as part number A113 860 0074. It was only available from the Daimler Benz factory, and they are now very rare. I was lucky enough to buy mine from a friend who was selling his Pagoda.
• Also being sold with the car is an original Engine Bay Inspection light which plugs into a socket in the engine bay.
