My 1961 Mercedes Ponton was bought from California, hence the LHD and sun-created patina.
It came to the UK in 2018
I have had specialists slowly restoring it – mechanical and structural – so it just needs the interior and body renovating now. It runs well, starting quickly and running smoothly and efficiently (24mpg on standard 97 or 99 octane petrol).
She lives in a heated garage, and I use it for journeys of 15m or more at least 3 times a week.
Many new parts, eg:
· Windscreen wipers
· Stainless steel front pipe and centre section exhaust
· Front and rear windscreens
· Fitted floor matting (rubber)
· Propshaft flexi-disc
· Engine mounts
· Fuel tank removal and checking, replacing fuel gauge sensor gasket and hoses
· New carburettor (Weber)
· Electronic ignition - 21mpg
· Doorlocks
· Windscreen washer fluid reservoir
· Waterproof, breathable, custom outdoor cover
Plus structural, eg:
· Welding on front and under wheel arches (photos available)
· Extensive underside welding - almost completely new floor in cabin and boot
· Roof protection
It comes with a boot full of old and new parts, though most are either standard from Mercedes or easily available online. There are several bits of history from its 58 years in California and a complete log of what I have done to her since purchase.
