A W116 with this level of originality is a rarity
1976 UK-market car (Original Herts registration RNK nnnR - original plates in boot), brought to Ireland in 2010.
The first owner had it until his death in 2004, it sat in his garage until 2008, when it was bought from his estate by an enthusiast who recommissioned it and owned it for 18 months, before I bought it.
Factory options include all-round electric windows, and tinted glass.
Very original with only 43k miles and includes the three original keys in wallets, three original data cards and all handbooks, every tax disc from new and most MOTs.
The original rear-window dealer sticker and tax-disc holder are still present (Arlington, now Mercedes Benz of Bedford)
The original Moss Green Interior is amazingly original.
The radio and passenger-mirror blanking plates, and a full set of MB radiator hoses from 1980, still with the dealer tags on them, are in the boot.
A folder accompanies the car with numerous documents/receipts from the early days, and all details from 2008 onwards.
Apart from having some paint over the years, the only major replacements have been the fuel pump, filter & accumulator, brakes, water pump, HT leads and rear light & boot-lid seals. The dealer-fit Phillips FM stereo radio/cassette has been professionally refurbished by a UK specialist and the speakers are 116-specific modern replacements from Königs Klassik Radios in Germany. An automatic Hirschmann antenna is triggered by the radio. Original, model-correct MB (Klippan) rear seat-belts have been added.
After purchase, I had it professionally undersealed (photos of work included) with 3M products underneath the exterior, within all box sections and door bottoms (window regulators also lubricated then) and sealing film was used under the bonnet and in the boot.
In the last 15 years it has done around 11,000 miles, on enjoyable runs with the MB Club, and to shows. It has never let us down and has always been garaged.
Full snags disclosure:
A few tiny areas behind the rear wheels could now use a clean-up and retouch with under-seal, but nothing serious.
It could also do with new tyres, as the ones I fitted after purchase are now 15 years old, but they still have deep tread, aren't hardened and are still good in the wet.
The vacuum central locking loses its vacuum after a few hours.
All other mechanical and electrical systems on the car work smoothly and exactly as intended.
Reason for sale is that we have moved house, and I'm not using it as much as I'd like, and it's too nice to leave in the garage, unused.
The price is open to offers, but is relatively firm, as befits such an original car.
For UK buyers, the car is 40 minutes from Rosslare port, for ferries to Fishguard, or two hours from Dublin, for ferries to Holyhead.
