W180 220s 1958 Ponton with optional semi auto hydrak system

Selling our lovely 1958 W180 220S Ponton with very rare optional semi-automatic Hydrak system. Colour code 350H blue and chassis NO. 180010Z7513481. The date of registration was 2nd January 1958 in Salzburg Austria.

It was purchased by us at Essen Techno classic from Dealer at the show on 25Th March 2022 last year. We were on the Mercedes Benz club trip where there were loads of us with various knowledge to thoroughly go over this car at the show before purchasing even starting it and warming it up on the dealer stand within the show.

The car itself is original German car that has clearly been well cared for and looked after looking at the service/maintenance records it comes with. Comes with its original books which will be seen in the pictures later on. At the time of purchase the car had its equivalent to UK mot, a TUV test which is way more stringent than our UK mot test.

Since arrival to UK, it was registered with a V5 in my name and address straight away with UK REG NO. 443XVU. There was no legal requirement to have UK mot being a classic but I did have one done for peace of mind which runs out on 10.06.2023 and it received clean bill of health. Whilst up on the ramp I took the opportunity to take some photos for my records. The chassis is all original and clean and shows sign of being wax oiled to preserve. There are no oil leaks either.

The car itself is stunning looking and drives well. The Hydrak system works as it should smooth and effortless and has been maintained and comes with its service/maintenance book. The twin solex carburettors' were serviced and tuned approx. 3 years ago. In the history file which is all in German you can clearly see it has been cared for with loads money being spent on it over the years. We do have nearly a complete translated ENGLISH VERSION of all the history file to read and see and hopefully we can get it completed.

In 2019 there was a full detailed valuation report done on this car, valuing it at 43,000 euros.

Also in 2019 it was taken on the Limburg Ponton Rally and we have the itinery folder for the event.

When we got the car there were a few things we wanted to do to take car up to next level in detail. Firstly, a nice good machine polish to give real smooth deep blue mirror shine.We changed the indicator seals on the wings with new ones and new orange indicator lenses and seals for the lenses, replaced all 2 pieces of rubber seals on each door handle, new seals on boot handle, new rear door stone guards, new fuel cap lock with new seal as lock looked little tattie but I do have original lock and key here for you. New chrome door escutcheons on each door inside. It was noted that all 4 doors inside when removing door inside door panels to change the exterior aluminium trim were heavily coated in wax oil inside to preserve. Both sides of car all lower door aluminium trims were replaced 6 pieces and the 206cm lower long piece running from front to back replaced. Removed the aluminium trim that sits on top of each door and sent away for polishing to remove the age-related marks from over the years. Has nearly new all-round the lovely Sprint classic tyres making it lovely quite smooth comfortable ride. New 220s boot badge put on. ITS THE SMALL THINGS THAT Make HUGE DIFFERENCE.

The interior is lovely and has been fitted with seat belts front and rear for added safety The front seat is a bench seat right across. The front both sides door pockets actually spring back closed when pulled open. Still retains all its original rubber floor matting how it left factory not been carpeted over as well as still retaining original glass all round. I have cleaned all the wood to give nice fresh look but maintaining character of looking old still. I have spent many hours detailing and cleaning up the engine bay without going over the top as you will see in pictures later on. In the boot it has it original spare wheel with Jack and boot rubber mat.

For future preventive maintenance I have drained fuel tank and put new original OEM brass filter back in as there was just the plug but with no filter gauze. The tank being new was all good and free from any particles and rust. Cleaned vent lines, both fuel lines cleaned as it has reserve tank feature as standard and took out and rebuilt the mechanical fuel pump with new diaphragm, taken out fuel filter housing unit and cleaned and replaced the cork gasket and put new filter in. Taken out the idle jets and cleaned.

The car has mainly been used for club events (CLASSIC CAR SHOWS) and the odd drive out this year and thoroughly enjoyed our time with it. On 4th Sept it was on display at Hampton Court Palace concours de Elegance. Have kept written journal from time of purchasing and writing down everything we have done and where we have been with this car, mileage and all petrol receipts stapled in date order. As mentioned above comes with huge history file, original books, previous no. plates on car. Invoices for everything we spent on it and our purchase invoice from dealer at Essen techno classic. Nova clearance paper work. Car is ready to be driven and enjoyed like we have enjoyed. I will say though it will be very hard to find another one like it for sale, first to see will buy it if it's truly what they are after.

It is a very clean and tidy original well maintained w180 220S Ponton. If I was keeping it the only last thing we would do is have the front and back chrome bumpers chromed again due to showing some age-related wear here and there. It will also need sometime in future although not anytime yet a new back box as there is very small hole in it.

More than happy to sell to anyone in the world and help in anyway I can with the purchase process. Making things clear now will only accept bank transfer. It is being sold for what we paid and spent on it since ownership which will show in the paper work. Will come with fresh new mot.
