In 2004 the R171 graced the stage at the 74th Geneva Motor Show, building on the success of the innovative R170. The R171 version of the SLK now featured a front end inspired by Formula One, paying homage to the Silver Arrows era. Included in the improvements were the Airscarf system providing neck-level heating – a true luxury for chilly open-air drives, the retractable hardtop was now able to transform the two-passenger beauty from a snug coupe to a wind-in-your-hair roadster in just 22 seconds, a redesign of the folding roof increased the room in the boot and new engines offered more opportunity for inspiring driving. The R171 embodied the essence of its nameplate: Sportlich (sporty), Leicht (light), and Kurz (compact). Whether you’ve owned an R171 or simply admired it from afar, this celebration is for you.
