The only place you can see a BRIXMIS G Wagen (photo by Classic Car Valuations Specialist).
Established in 1969, this fascinating museum has expanded to encompass intelligence activity across the army, navy and air force. Included are the activities of the Intelligence Corps, the World War Two Y-Service, the Special Operations Executive, and the United States Air Force during the Cold War. Many of you will have passed by the 1443ft diameter FLR-9 direction finding antenna array, nicknamed ‘the elephant cage’, regrettably dismantled in 1996.
We need to arrive at the security gate between 9.45am and 10.00am. At the museum there are toilets but no café facility, and our 90-minute guided tour will start at 10.15am.
The museum is located on an active Ministry of Defence site and entry is strictly controlled. Prior submission of name, nationality and car registration will be required, and on the day you will need to produce photo ID. Also, a condition of entry is that both vehicle and personal searches may be undertaken. A copy of the site GDPR protocols will be provided to you before the visit, or can be requested earlier from graham.black@mercedes-benz-club.co.uk .
The museum is run by a skeleton staff and enthusiastic volunteers, and their guided tour will bring the visit to life for us. There isn’t a formal entrance fee but donations are requested – we suggest £10 per person, so bring cash on the day please.
Bookings for the museum visit must be made in advance via the Club website Events page, subject to reaching our maximum group size, and please note the closing date for bookings is 27 August.
