National W123 Day

> Back to Events

This year’s W123 day will continue the concept of giving our families something to do whilst our beloved W123’s are polished, displayed, assessed by our guest judge, and their owners discuss all things W123.  This year’s event will be held at the Denby Pottery Company Limited, at their Denby Pottery village site, Denby Road, Denby, Derbyshire, DE5 8NX. The company can trace its origins back to a local potter William Bourne in 1809 who used the geology of the local countryside with its abundance of local clay and coal especially through the discovery of an exceptional clay seem found in Denby which made it economically attractive to produce its earthen wares. The Bourne family and descendants expanded the factory developing the business into a thriving, internationally known producer of fine pottery, forming a limited company in 1916 headed by Joseph Bourne Wheeler until his death in 1942. The company traded under the family name Joseph Bourne and Son until 1976 after which it became the successful Denby Pottery business we know today.

Denby is a British company primarily manufacturing, hand-crafted pottery, table ware, kitchenware,  dinner place settings, glass ware and cast-iron cook ware. The Denby Pottery site also has a museum coffee shop, factory shop and restaurant. The restaurant will be available for members should they wish to take advantage of their excellent, reasonably priced, Sunday, Roast lunch.

The format for our W123 Day will be similar to previous events with arrival and parking of our vehicles, in a dedicated area within the Denby Potttery village car park between 10:30 and 11:00 hr. Prize giving in the afternoon will be around 15:30hrs for W123 vehicles and the best of the rest on the day.  Whilst all members’ cars are welcome it will be the W123 saloons, coupes and estates that will take pride of place. We are looking forward to seeing old friends and owners of all W123’s be it a daily runner, young classic or a cherished heritage vehicle of the marque and model.

This year’s entry price has been maintained similarly to previous events in 2022/23 at just £11 per car with an option of an additional price of £7 per person for a tour of the museum when booked at the same time as your event entry ticket. Closing date for the event is Monday 26th August 2024 after which your event details, car entry pass will be sent to you preferably by email. Where appropriate a museum entry pass will be provided on the day of the event.

Book now for the event through the club website or by contacting Mel Sharpe or Catherine Barlow at the club office either by e-mail, or by telephone on 01780 482111.
