The overview of the tour remains as promoted in newsletter no.17

and in the January Gazette.

All the tour hotels have now been determined and “reserved”.

The tour starts over pre dinner drinks at Ogygia.

1.13 (first night 13 September) https://www.ogygia.be/en/ Poperinge, Belgium

€460 DB&B to include room at €210 plus their refined dinner with aperitif, wines, water and coffee included at €125 pp.

I have high hopes for this small ten rooms hotel; especially given that we will be taking all ten rooms. Poperinge is less than ten miles from Ypres so it would be possible to book an early Channel crossing to visit Ypres (Menin gate) in advance of arriving at the hotel should any of us so choose.

2.14 https://lamaison-hotel.de/en/ Saarlouis, Germany

€365 DB&B to include a City room at €215 plus a four course menu in the PASTIS bistro at circa €75pp (underground parking for our ten cars)

I am expecting that the bistro food will be to a very high standard given the accreditations (and prices) for the LOUIS restaurant.

Bad Saulgau, Germany

€423 DB&B to include a standard room at €217 plus parking at €12/car plus their four course gourmet menu at circa €97pp

4.16 and 5.17 https://www.baitadeipini.com/en/ Bormio, Italy

€108 B&B/night for a Standard room and garaging for our cars.

The rooms are small and by far the cheapest on the tour but for only two days they should be fine. I think the relatively low price is a reflection of Italy rates as well as the size of the rooms.

The restaurant is booked for us to dine à la carte in the hotel on the first night and “keep our powder dry” for the second night.

6.18 and 7.19 https://www.victoria-meiringen.ch/en/ Meiringen, Switzerland

CHF 575 DB&B/night to include a room rate of CHF 320 (a combination of their Superior and Superior Comfort rooms), parking at CHF 5/car plus CHF 125 for their Degustations Menu in their Gourmet Restaurant.

I have moved away from Grindelwald based on availability and price (my perceived value for money). The Victoria is not cheap but is akin to a restaurant with rooms. We could go à la carte for the second night should we be so minded.

€498 DB&B to include a room rate of €320 plus a four course menu at €89pp in their Gourmet Restaurant La Cueillette.

This looks to be a really rather nice venue

€473.50 DB&B to include a room rate of 7 x €300 + 3 x €245 (lottery as to who gets which) and the gourmet menu at €95pp

The tour concludes after breakfast at Domaine de Barive.

I estimate the cost will be circa £380 DB&B/couple/night excluding extras, but including an allowance for two dinners in Bormio. In addition we will all have travel costs, including to and from the first and last hotels.

For anyone who is not booked on the tour but would like to join next year’s tour I trust this gives a “flavour” of what might be expected. I know some of you were disappointed that the dates did not suit your personal itineraries so please note that I expect September to be the likely month for future R230 drive and Dine tours.
