This a guided tour of the Solway Aviation museum near Carlisle airport in Cumbria. Access into some of the plane exhibits is arranged and includes a guided tour inside of the Vulcan Bomber – special indeed.
There are a number of planes in the open but there are also many exhibits indoors spread over several buildings. Too much to write about here but certainly a place with lots of history about UK aviation and a day out not to be missed. The museum has a website where there is plenty of background detail.
Cut and past the following into your browser — www.solway-aviation-museum.co.uk.
We would arrange to meet at the Houghton Hall Garden Centre, Carlisle, CA6 4JB lower car park so that we could all set off on Sunday 20th October at ~10.45 am in convoy to drive to the aviation museum for ~11.00am – the museum is barley 10 minutes’ drive away. No time for retail shopping I’m afraid as the garden centre only opens at 10.30am.
Monies for the museum visit will be collected upon our arrival, per person, £7 pound or £5 concession if your over 60 years and the same cost for a child.
We will be guided around and informed on all we see (outdoors and indoors)- access into the inside of the Vulcan Bomber will happen in small groups, for safety reasons – each group having around 20 minutes inside the bomber. Overall the museum has told me that we are likely to be with them for around 3 hours to see everything on display. There are toilet facilities and tea and coffee for those who require this.
After the museum visit we will leave in convoy to the nearby Fleece Hotel in Ruleholm (barely 5 minute drive away) for a Sunday roast dinner between 1400hrs and 14.30hrs where there is a choice of beef, lamb, pork or chicken at £18.50 per head. Starters and puds are extra. That will all need to be paid for at the hotel after the meal. I will assume that if you’re booking the tour you will also be coming to the hotel for Sunday roast dinner – if its anything different you will need to let me know when you have booked the tour.
To make this happen I must ask that you click the “Book Now” button quickly – identifying the number of people coming – certainly before the end of September please, so that I can see the numbers coming; as I have a bit of paperwork to complete and submit on behalf of the museum for health and safety during the visit as well as booking ahead with the hotel for Sunday lunch. The Fleece Hotel will section off part of their car park for us to use. Once you have booked this tour please drop me an email to say which roast dinner you would prefer to have – the hotel has asked for a summary of choices from me.
