Spring Run – Connemara Loop Drive & Lunch

> Back to Events

We ease out of winter and into the new season with our first event of 2026 – An immersive drive along the spectacular Connemara Loop, taking in The Inagh Valley, meandering through some of Ireland’s wildest and most dramatic scenery.

We will meet at the Connemara Coast Hotel, Furbo, Co. Galway, Ireland. H91 KX27 on Saturday, 11th April from 10.30am with a view to setting off at 11.00am.

Travelling west we begin our first leg, a relaxing 88km (55 mile) journey via Inverin, then north to Maam Cross and on to the renowned R344, Inagh Valley, a glacial corridor framed by the Twelve Bens on one side and the Maumturks on the other. Photo stop at Lough Inagh View Point.

As we head clockwise around the loop we will stop off for lunch (approx. 1.30pm) in The Leenane Hotel overlooking Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord, where the Maam Valley meets the Atlantic. Surrounded by steep slopes – the Devilsmother to the east, Leenane Hill to the west. Lunch will be pay on the day locally by members.

After lunch we drive southeast beginning our 65km (40 miles) leg back to Galway. Initially via the R336 to Maam Cross. This section is a short drive but the sheer scale and shifting light across this wild terrain make it unforgettable. We then join the N59 on our final leg back towards Galway.

While there are many places of interest along the way, the real magic lies between them – the quiet stretches where mountains, lakes, and picture perfect scenery steals the show.
