Techno – Classica Essen
Wednesday 3rd to Saturday 6th April 2024
2023 has been a year for our clubs shows. It is great to be getting back normal with our clubs shows. As we look forward to 2024 it will be the 24th year we will be visiting wonderful Techno – Classica in Essen, Germany. As usual it was a great show in 2023, we had 58 members staying in 49 rooms out of the 118 at the hotel, with every member enjoying the weekend.

Techno – Classica is one of biggest Classic Car Shows in Europe and now in its 33rd year, it just gets bigger and better every time we go. If you love classic cars and you think the UK shows are good, then you have not seen anything yet!

Essen is in a different league altogether. For a start there are Mercedes-Benz you do not see in the UK, it is great to see these beautiful classic cars in such outstanding condition. There are pre- and post-war cars, club stands, parts sales, models, Mercedes-Benz Classic Car Club International, everything a Mercedes classic car buff could ever want. Mercedes-Benz really knows how to put on a display in Hall 1.

For 2024 we are going to hire 1 Executive 36 seater coach with fewer seats but with more leg room and tables. (All 36 seats are now reserved on the coach) The coaches will depart on Wednesday 3rd April 2024. The coach will depart at 05.00am, from Mercedes –Benz HQ and the 2nd will pick up from M25 J26 Waltham Abby Marriot Hotel at 6.00am.and will pick up at 08:00am from the Ashford international This hotel is just from Junction 9 M20. The reason for the earl starts as we have to book in at DFDS ferry at Dover for 08.45hrs for the 10:40hrs sailing to Calais. We will have a meal voucher on the DFDS Ferry for both sailings.

We will be staying at the Mercure 3 star hotel in Ratingen near Dusseldorf. The Essen Messe is just 9 miles (20 minutes drive) away from the hotel.

The coach will depart the hotel at 07.15hrs to arrive at Dunkirk 12.00hrs on DFDS Sailing 14:00 from Dunkirk. We arrive at Dover at 15.00hrs.

The Manager at the Mercure who looks after us very well, has given us a fantastic price for the rooms. The total cost is a very reasonable £611.00 including coach, 3 night’s bed and breakfast, sharing a twin or double room. Total for a single room is £358.00.

For members who are flying or driving to Essen the price is £372.00 for 3 night’s bed and breakfast, sharing a twin or double room or £240.00 for a single room. Extra nights are single £80 twin/double £124. Family room extra £11.11 per day for breakfast per child. Show tickets are extra. The Mercure is a modern 3 star hotel with 118 rooms, good food and drink and our rate now includes free entrance to the Alma Sport Club which is located 100 metres from the hotel and offers a gym and sauna.

All bookings with the Mercure Hotel must be made through the club and not directly with the hotel.

Telephone 0330 1071599. www.ashfordhotel.co.uk should book directly with the hotel, stating whether you will be leaving your car there – for which there will be a small charge payable to the hotel. Parking at Northampton is free.
