Visit to Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum

Come and join us in a tour of Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum on Wednesday 12th June at 10.30am for a 11am tour followed by a visit to the café for a cream tea, pasty or etc.

China Clay mining has shaped the landscape, lives of people and economy of mid-Cornwall for over 250 years and is Cornwall’s largest mining industry.  It is a fully accredited museum and is based within two Victorian China Clay works and is now a Schedule Ancient Monument and tells the story of this industry and the people who worked and lived is the shadows of Cornwall’s iconic “white pyramids”.   Their collections include working waterwheels, tools, machinery and vintage lorries.

Your tour could include wandering around their interactive Discovery Centre, exploring historic trails, woodland walks and views of a modern clay pit.

Entry fee payable on the day.   Pay for food on the day.   Cream Teas need to be pre-booked so if you require one please email Kathy or Paul to book one.

Accessibility information

Wheal Martyn is a historic site and some areas have limited access by nature. However, the Discovery Centre, Shop and Café are fully accessible and every effort has been made to make as many areas of the wider site as accessible as possible. The site is set on a hillside, there are uneven paths and steps around some of the outside trails. There accessible toilets in the Atrium (main entrance)
