We try each year to include a meet with an engineering flavour, This year we are covering this with a visit to the West Somerset Railway. At 20.5 miles long the WSR is the longest heritage railway line in the UK. Our visit includes a return trip on the train and, on arrival at Minehead, a tour of the railway’s Engineering Workshops where they maintain and build Steam Engines.
We meet at Bishops Lydeard at 10AM latest for the 10.15 service to Minehead. There is a large car park at Bishops Lydeard. We have the opportunity of a picnic lunch on the train but if you prefer there are many places in Minehead where you can get a bite of something. We expect to travel back to Bishops Lydeard on the 16.35 service from Minehead although there will be an earlier diesel hauled service at 14.20 if you need to be away earlier.
We look forward to seeing on the day for a trip back to 1960…
